Ancient Hue Facilities: Two Pools, Phu Xuan Spa and Gym

Ancient Hue has two outdoor pools, Phu Xuan Spa with a sauna and steam room, and a small gym; listed pool hours are 6 am to 7 pm. There is no beach, kids’ club or large resort complex: the facilities are sized for nine houses and villas, and non-guests can use the pool and spa through the hotel’s Day Experience.

Each facility, honestly

Rectangular pool at night lit blue, with sun loungers along its edge under trees and lanterns in the garden

Rectangular · garden-house side

The garden-house pool

A long rectangular pool in front of the main garden house, under old trees, with loungers along both sides. The hotel describes mosaic tiles on its floor with a Hue motif and a longevity sign at the centre. In the evening it is lit and very photogenic, which is also when day visitors linger.

Use it for an early swim or a late-afternoon dip after sightseeing. Not for lap swimming — it is a garden pool.

Curving pool with a round section, white sandstone deck and loungers seen from above beside a terrace with a checkerboard floor

Curved · villa side

The villa pool

A curving pool between the French villas, with a small round section that photos show as shallower, a sandstone deck and loungers with umbrellas. Villa rooms with a pool view look onto it, so it is quieter in the early morning than in the afternoon.

Best for families with young children, with supervision. Skip it if you want shade all day — it is more open.

Spa treatment room with two massage beds, folded white towels and dark blue wallpaper with a pattern of white birds and branches

2 rooms · sauna · steam

Phu Xuan Spa

Two treatment rooms with four beds, a sauna, a steam room, two shower rooms and a foot-massage room. The hotel features hot-stone treatment, acupressure and cupping. Prices are in the spa menu rather than on the website; with only four beds, book your slot on arrival.

Book it if you want a massage after a day of walking the Citadel. Skip it if you expect a large resort spa with pools and lounges.

Small gym with treadmills and a reformer machine on a wooden floor behind glass walls with a slatted wooden ceiling

Cardio · reformer

The gym

A compact glass-walled gym with treadmills, an exercise bike and a Pilates-style reformer on a wooden floor. It covers a morning workout; for longer runs, the road upstream along the river towards Thien Mu Pagoda is the local choice before the heat builds.

Use it for a short morning session. Not for serious weight training.

Getting the most from the facilities

01

Swim early

From opening at 6 am until mid-morning the pools are at their quietest; afternoons can bring Day Experience visitors and photographers.

02

Book the spa on day one

Four beds fill quickly. Ask for the spa menu at check-in and book your treatment for the evening you come back tired from the tombs.

03

Use a late flight well

If you check out at noon and fly in the evening, ask about the Day Experience or simply leave bags at reception and spend the afternoon in town.

Honest note

The pools are attractive but not large, and they are shared with outside visitors who buy the Day Experience, so some afternoons are busier than a nine-house hotel suggests. Some guests also mention facilities closing without much notice. There is no beach, no kids’ club and no lap pool; the nearest beach is about 18 km away at Thuan An.

Questions about the pools, spa and gym at Ancient Hue

Is the pool at Ancient Hue heated?

The hotel describes its pool as saltwater, and one travel company calls it heated; the hotel itself does not say. From December to February Hue’s water and air can feel cool, so if a warm pool matters for a winter stay, ask the hotel when you book.

Are spa treatments included in the room rate at Ancient Hue?

No. Treatments at Phu Xuan Spa are paid separately, priced in the spa menu you can request at check-in. Some packages and offers add a treatment, so read what your rate includes on the booking page. The Day Experience for outside visitors includes one 60-minute treatment.

Can I use the sauna and steam room at Ancient Hue?

Phu Xuan Spa has one sauna and one steam room. The hotel does not say whether guests can use them without booking a treatment, so ask at the spa. With only two treatment rooms, it helps to book the time you want on the day you arrive.

Can I use the pool after check-out at Ancient Hue?

Check-out is at noon. If your flight is in the evening, the hotel’s Day Experience offers about four hours with pool access, a 60-minute spa treatment and afternoon tea for VND 2,000,000 per person, and luggage can be left at reception, on request — ask the hotel when you book.

What equipment does the gym at Ancient Hue have?

Photos show treadmills, an exercise bike and a Pilates-style reformer in a small glass-walled room with a wooden floor. Free weights are not visible in the photos. Opening hours are not published, so ask at check-in if you train early or late.

Are the bicycles at Ancient Hue free?

Bicycles for guests appear on the hotel’s listings, but the hotel’s own facilities page does not mention them or a charge. Treat them as on request — ask the hotel when you book, and ask for lights if you plan to ride back after dark.
