Ancient Hue Dining: Kim Long Fine Dining, Le Soleil and Breakfast

Ancient Hue has two restaurants and a bar: Kim Long Fine Dining for Hue court-style and family cooking, Le Soleil de Hue for French food in a glasshouse, and Van Xuan Bar in the garden. There are also two private settings, Phu Mong for royal-style banquets and La Lune for two. Outside diners book too, so reserve the evening you want.

Hue court-style · since the mid-2000s

Kim Long Fine Dining

The original Ancient Hue restaurant, in the largest garden house. The kitchen cooks Hue court-style and family dishes; the hotel singles out its clay-pot rice. Guests can dress in imperial costume restored by Hue embroiderers for the meal, and dishes are adjusted for no pork or allergies if you warn them in advance.

Go if you want one proper Hue banquet-style dinner. Skip it if you prefer street food at street prices.

French · glasshouse

Le Soleil de Hue

A glasshouse dining room inspired by the Maison de Verre in Paris, furnished in French colonial and Art Deco style. The menu, overseen by chef Thierry Mounon, uses French technique with Hue ingredients and spices, and the room doubles as a cocktail bar in the evening.

Go if you have eaten Vietnamese for days and want a change. Skip it if you came to Hue only for local cooking.

Breakfast

Breakfast is ordered from an à la carte menu of Vietnamese and Western dishes, with a spread of fruit, pastries, bread, yoghurt, juice, coffee and tea set out as standard. Photos show breakfast served on balconies and trays; breakfast in the room is on request — ask the hotel when you book.

Choose a rate with it if you will not head out for pho at dawn. Skip it if you plan to eat at Dong Ba Market each morning.

Garden bar · evenings

Van Xuan Bar

An evening bar in the garden-house grounds, set under hanging vines against a brick wall, with the hotel’s own drinks list. It is the easy option after a day at the Citadel when you do not want a Grab ride across the river. Opening hours are not published; ask at check-in.

Go if you want a quiet drink before dinner. Skip it if you are after Hue’s livelier riverside bars.

How to eat well at Ancient Hue

01

Book the Royal Package before you arrive

The hotel asks for three days’ notice and a 50% deposit; the throne seat and live ca Hue music are paid extras. Arrange it by email once your room is confirmed.

02

Tell the kitchen about diets early

Kim Long Fine Dining adjusts dishes for no pork or allergies when told in advance. Put it in your booking request and repeat it at check-in.

03

Eat at least once in town

Hue’s street food is some of Vietnam’s best and cheap. Pair a hotel dinner with lunches at Dong Ba Market or the stalls around the Citadel.

Honest note

Hotel dining is priced well above Hue’s street food: the hotel’s own menu lists Hue savoury pancakes at VND 230,000 before VAT, against roughly VND 20,000–30,000 at a market stall (checked October 2026). Some guests also find the breakfast menu narrow over a long stay. Come for one or two special meals, not every meal.

Questions about eating at Ancient Hue

Can non-guests eat at Ancient Hue?

Yes. Kim Long Fine Dining and Le Soleil de Hue take outside diners, and Ancient Hue began as a restaurant before it had rooms. That means evening tables can fill with visitors from other hotels, so reserve ahead even as a guest, especially at weekends and in the dry season.

Is there a dress code at Ancient Hue’s restaurants?

The hotel publishes no dress code. Smart-casual clothes suit Kim Long Fine Dining and Le Soleil in the evening. For the royal-costume dining experience the hotel provides the imperial garments, made by the embroiderers who restore Hue court dress, so you only need to arrive on time.

What is the royal costume dinner at Ancient Hue?

At Kim Long Fine Dining guests can dine wearing restored imperial costume, made by the same artisans who reproduce Hue court garments. It pairs with the Royal Package, an imperial-style set dinner. The hotel needs three days’ notice and a 50% deposit; the throne seat and live ca Hue are extra.

Does Ancient Hue serve vegetarian food?

Vegetarian dishes are on request — ask the hotel when you book and remind the restaurant at check-in. Hue has a strong Buddhist vegetarian tradition, so the kitchen knows the dishes; the hotel states it can also adjust meals for guests who avoid pork or have allergies if warned in advance.

Can I have breakfast in my room at Ancient Hue?

Photos show breakfast on trays and balconies, and the hotel lists 24-hour room service on one listing, so in-room breakfast is likely possible. It is on request — ask the hotel when you book or the evening before, and check whether a tray charge applies.

What is Phu Mong at Ancient Hue?

Phu Mong Private & Royal Dining is a private room for banquets and personalised menus, used for the Royal Package. The name comes from Phu Mong, the old garden-house quarter of Kim Long where the hotel stands. It suits birthdays, anniversaries and groups who want the room to themselves.
